I would like to see some goals. Please?

Still no win for the new guy..jpg
Panthers 2 Rangers 1
guh.
Another 1 goal offensive performance, another loss for the NY Rangers.
I won't mention another blown lead. (Oh wait, I just did)

a little offensive.

New Coach John Tortorella's first game.jpg
Maple Leafs 2 Rangers 1 (OT/SO)
guh.
The Rangers fire a defensive-minded coach, replacing him with his exact opposite, and they score 1 (ONE!) goal. =( Wade Reddon's goal was scored on the power play, so there's hope for that aspect of the NYR game.
Let's be charitable and call this transition a work in progress.
Panthers at MSG tonight. Will Coach Tortorella be booed or cheered upon his introduction? More important, can the Blueshirts find a way to grasp 2 very important points...

It's not the coach's fault.

Not a total loss..jpg
Maple Leafs 3 Rangers 2 (OT)
guh.
The evening began on a festive note, with a ceremony honoring Harry Howell and Andy Bathgate and raising their numbers to the rafters. They played way back before the current Madison Square Garden (which hasn't been located in Madison Square since 1925, check it out) was built.
A little before my time!.jpg
As for the game, there was no scoring for the first 2 periods, but in the 3rd, Toronto scored, the Rangers tied it up (Scott Gomez). The Leafs again scored less than a minute later, and the Blueshirts.... (wait for it)..... tied it with 40 seconds left on a Michal Rozsival goal. (YAY!)
But the game went to overtime, the Rangers took a penalty, and the Maple Leafs won it with a powerplay goal.
Monday morning update: The Rangers just fired coach Tom Renney. Sadly, I guess it was just a matter of time.
Sorry, Tom..jpg
Who will be behind the bench when the boys are in Toronto on Wednesday night?...

Thanks, I needed that!

Thanks, I REALLY Needed That!.jpg
Rangers 3 Islanders 1
YAY!
The Rangers break their losing streak against the team with the worst record in the league. So what, a win is a win is a win, as they say, right?
Petr (healthy scratch for 35 games this season) Prucha got into a fight, inspiring the crowd and perhaps his teammates as well. Captain Chris Drury had 3 assists, King Henrik had 26 saves, and the futile Blueshirt power play actually scored a goal (Scott Gomez).
Does anybody remember the word to this song: NY Rangers Goal Celebration Song

Singing the Loser's Blues.jpg
Blues 2 Rangers 1
guh.
8 losses in the last 9 games, boy these pretzels are making me thirsty!!!
The power play is not very powerful, going 1 for the last 34 man-advantage situations. The fishsticks Islanders come into the Garden tonight, maybe the rivalry will inspire my struggling team...

Point Taken.

Point taken..jpg
Panthers 2 Rangers 1 (OT/SO)
guh.
I"m sure the boys were looking to this stop in the Sunshine State to build upon the recent win; sadly, they ran into a stingy goalie in Tomas Vokoun, who allowed only a 1st period goal by Fredrik Sjostrom.
King Henrik was no slouch either, holding Florida to 1 goal in the 2nd period, and nothing more until the shootout. Only Richard Zednik's attempt in the 4th round decided the contest. At least the Blueshirts snag a point for the regulation tie. We'll take it!

WIN!

A WIN at Long Last!.jpg
Rangers 5 Capitals 4 (OT/SO)
YAY!
It's been a long time since the boys won a game, wow, I almost forgot how sweet this song is: NY Rangers Goal Celebration Song
The Rangers had the lead and lost it. Had the lead again and lost it again, sending the game to overtime, and finally the shootout.
Even the shootout was a back and forth affair, with Nigel Dawes putting the Rangers ahead...
Dawes shootout goal.jpeg
... before Alex Ovechkin tied it for the Caps. =(
But the game winner was a bit of a lucky bounce. (top photo) Ryan Callahan's attempt hit the crossbar and bounced off the back of Washington goalie José Théodore and into the net. (Success!!)
King Henrik Lundqvist (26 saves, 3 saves in shootout) then stopped Brooks Laich to seal the deal for New York. And the fans went wild, presumably. =)

losing s***s.

A Stinky Streak.jpg
Devils 3 Rangers 0
guh.
The Blueshirts have lost 5 in a row, dropping to 6th in the conference (only the top 8 make the playoffs) and are considering bringing back Sean (the bad apple) Avery to New (the big apple) York.
Ex-Ranger and fan favorite Brendan Shanahan is now playing for New Jersey, who are guess what- once again in 1st place in the division. To make matters worse, the Devils are climbing in the standings while goaltender Martin Brodeur is out with injury.
guh.
Ovechkin (oh crap, not him again!) and the Capitals at MSG tomorrow night...

Heart of a Ranger: Adam Graves Number Retired

Gravy Train to NYR Immortality!.jpg
The New York Rangers and their fans celebrated the career of a great person the other night at MSG
YAY!
There is SO MUCH more about Gravy over here: (http://rangers.nhl.com/team/app/?service=page&page=NewsPage&articleid=407598), but here is a little photo sample of the emotional ceremony...

Barely, just Barely..jpg
Thrashers 2 Rangers 1 OT/SO
guh. 3 losses in a row, but the boys managed to salvage a point when Markus Naslund scored the tying goal with 11 seconds remaining in the 3rd. I guess that calls for a teensy celebration: NY Rangers Goal Celebration Song
Gotta try to break the losing streak in Dallas tonight...

The Immortal Tuuka Rask.

Threat Number 1: Bruins.jpg
Bruins 1 Rangers 0
guh.
The boys went up against the number 1 team in the conference and they played very well, allowing just the 1 goal, but could not get anything past Tuuka Rask (who?!) at the other end. guh.

February UPDATED! (twice)

On Sunday, Feb. 1 I'll be waving my 'Terrible Towel' and cheering on my Steelers in the Super Bowl. Normally when I have no rooting interest, I'd choose the underdog, and it would certainly be a great story if the Cardinals win.
But if my team loses, that means I'll be unhappy on my birthday (Monday), so... #!@% Arizona, and Go Pittsburgh, yay!
=)
This will probably change (again), but in the meantime...
