Brandon Dubinsky broke a 2-2 tie in the 3rd period for the winning goal, and Steve Valiquette held off the 'Canes to get the win. Scott Gomez and Lauri Korpikoski scored the other Ranger goals, triggering mass hysteria, dogs & cats living together, and the playing of this epic tune: NY Rangers Goal Celebration Song

Look for the Rangers to bounce back with a big victory on (Thank God it's) Regime Change Day (woohoo!!) against the Mighty Ducks...

Chris Drury (see ecstatic photo above) scored 2 power play goals, including the overtime winner, as the Rangers overcame their own penalties (11 man down situations, 5 of which were 5-on-3s, wtf!) to win the matchup of Original Six teams. Let there be Music: NY Rangers Goal Celebration Song

A couple of hockey writers mentioned this being a sort of lackluster effort for the Rangers. Well, as my dad used to say about golf, 'They don't ask how, they ask how many?'.

Big win for the boys last night in Ottawa, and another shutout for Henrik Lundqvist, his 2nd in 3 games. Way to go, King Henrik!

Brandon Dubinsky has been finding the points hard to come by through much of this season, but he scored the only goal (just his 1st tally in 20 games, yikes!) of the first 2 periods.
The highlight reel play (it was #6 in ESPN's top plays, woohoo!) of the evening belonged to Nikolai Zherdev. He faked out a Senator defender deep in the offensive zone and then threw a very tricky pass back to Lauri Korpikoski, who fired it into the net before the goalie could react. A play like that calls for a song like this: NY Rangers Goal Celebration Song
The boys continue on the road to face the Fishsticks Islanders on Tuesday at The Nassau Mausoleum...

guh. After that impressive win over the pens, one might have thought the Rangers were poised for a run of success.
One would have thought wrong. =(
I'm too lazy and disgusted to write anything more about this debacle, except to say I hope my Canadian friend John forgets to give me a hard time about his Habs beating my Rangers next time I see him.(Which will probably be next Friday at Molly's Pub)
Will the Blueshirts bounce back from this tonight in Buffalo? Stay tuned...

This might be the most impressive win of the season! King Henrik got his first shutout, holding Crosby, Malkin, et al off the score sheet. The boys killed off 8 Pittsburgh power plays, and revived their dormant power play, scoring 2 goals, including this one b Paul Mara:

Ovechkin? Oh NOOO! =(

The Blueshirts were not exactly awesome during my Christmas vacation, (2 win, 3 losses) and now unsuccessful in their 1st game of 2009. Alex Ovechkin and the rest of the Capitals have been tearing up the Eastern Conference, trailing only the Boston Bruins. The Rangers are in 4th place, 1 point behind Philadelphia. The boys need to string together a few wins, or they will soon be overtaken by Montreal, New Jersey and Carolina. o_0;
The aforementioned Ovechkin broke a 1-1 tie with a shorthanded goal for the game-winner. The good news for New York was another goal by Petr Prucha, who is finally getting some playing time after missing 8 in a row as a 'healthy scratch'.
Ok. Gotta find a way to stop Pittsburgh tomorrow night at the garden...
