Rangers Rock Raleigh!

Rangers Rock Raleigh!.jpg
Rangers 4 Hurricanes 2
YAY!
3 wins in a row, and 6 out of 8, yay! Dubinsky, Avery, Drury and Shanahan scored for the boys
The Rangers acquired a few players at the trading deadline; 2 made their NYR debut last night; defenseman Christian Backman, and here's Fredrik (Does he mind if I call him Freddy?) Sjostrom:

And this photo of Henrik (26 saves!) Lundqvist is really amazing; this is the kind of shot the photogs are hoping for when they stand against the plexiglass for the entire game (click to enlarge):

Weekend WooHoo!

The boys won on Saturday and Sunday!
Sunday:
Rangers Tame the Panthers!.jpg
Rangers 5 Panthers 0
YAY!
Sweet wrapup to a very productive weekend for the Blueshirts; King Henrik notched his 8th shutout, Marek (much maligned) Malik was the game's 2nd star, and Jaromir Jagr showed he still has the goods:
Jaromir's highlight goal..jpeg
Brandon Dubinsky is a bad bad man:

Brandon Dubinsky scores big goals and makes big hits:

Henrik stopped Buffalo's best, Thomas Vanek, on a breakaway to preserve a tie late in the 3rd:

Sean Avery won it for the boys (see above photo of celebration at the bench) and that is the way to do it: Dramatic, emphatic and *a word that rhymes with dramatic & emphatic*. yay!

Epic Collapse.

From 5-0 to 5-6? HUH?!.jpg
Canadiens 6 Rangers 5 OT/SO
guh. The boys were looking to sweep the season series against the Habs, and after building a 5-0 lead, that looked like a done deal. What turned out was a collapse reminiscent of the game a couple of weeks ago, when New York spotted the Montréal a 3 goal lead, only to roar back with 5 unanswered goals. Except this time, the skate was on the other foot.
Shanahan (2) Dubinsky, Avery and Drury assembled the lead, and over the last 28 minutes or so, the boys let it slip away. After a scoreless overtime, the shootout went to the Les Habitants. Bright note: Jaromir Jagr had 4 assists and Brendan Shanahan has reached 20 goals for the 19th straight time. Only Gordie Howe has bettered that mark, with 22 seasons of at least 20 goals.
So, 1 point in the standings for the regulation tie, but what a letdown...

A Win Against the West!

A Win Against the West!.jpeg
Rangers 3 Sharks 1
YAY!
That wasn't so hard, was it? It only took 10 tries against Western Conference teams before the Blueshirts broke into the win column.
The tying goal was scored by Ryan Callahan:
Callahan ties it up!.jpg
The eventual game winner put in by Chris Drury:
Drury celebrates go-ahead goal!.jpg
Callahan added an empty net goal to wrap things up and yeah, that's a big weekend for the boys, yay! [6th Place is a LOT better than 9th or 10th.] So next up is a visit to Montréal to face Les Habitants...

Goals Early & Often=WIN!

Sean of the Dead!.jpeg
Rangers 5 Sabres 1
YAY!
Were the boys going to be rusty after a 5 day layoff? No! Sean Avery scored the first of his 2 goals, 10 seconds into the contest, off a rebound from a Brandon Dubinsky rush. (1 goal, 2 helpers for Dubinsky) The Rangers added 3 more in the 1st period, and cruised to a victory. Brenden Shanahan and Ryan Callahan also had goals.
Henrik Lundqvist signed the big contract extension a few days ago, and celebrated by shutting down Buffalo. Way to go, King Henrik!
This picture is kind of weird; the centers are waiting for the puck to be dropped, but they're both looking away from the ref. huh? I wish I had a wider angle view so I could figure it out:

The blueshirts will try to win for the first time against a Western Conference team at MSG this afternoon, when the play San Jose...

Capital loss.

It's All Politics..jpg
Capitals 3 Rangers 2 (OT)
*muted yay*
Steve Valiquette got the start in goal for the 2nd straight game, and again he played well. Ranger goals were scored by Drury and Avery.
The boys salvaged a point in the standings for the regulation tie, and are playoff eligible for the moment...

Believe in Steve!

Believe in Steve!.jpg
Rangers 2 Flyers 0
YAY!
Another shutout win on the road for Steve Valiquette against the Flyers. Both Ranger goals came on the power play, Nigel Dawes and Scott Gomez.
If I had any energy left, I'd write more, but for now...

Quack is Whack.

Quack is Whack.jpg
Ducks 4 Rangers 1
guh. Another night of meaningless statistical victories for the blueshirts. More shots (33-19), more power plays, better jerseys. (ok, that's not a stat, but that's the way I feel, sodontgimmenolip.)
9 games against the West, with 0 wins. After a 3 game winning streak, the boys are now on a losing streak. Again. These pretzels are making me thirsty!!!

PWNed by the Kings

PWNed by the Kings.jpg
Kings 4 Rangers 2
guh. After 3 straight wins, the blueshirts were on top of their game, on top of the world, and climbing back into the divisional race. Were.
Last night the Kings had 2 goals before the Rangers could muster 2 shots. The boys battled back, eventually out-shooting the Kings 41-31, but that's a hollow victory, isn't it?
Gotta do better against the Western Conference (0-6-2) if they hope to stay relevant in the East. They play the reigning Stanley Cup Champion Anaheim Ducks tomorrow night...

Comeback!!!!!

Comeback!!!.jpg
Rangers 5 Canadiens 3
YAY!!
It was a Hockey Day in Canada, and after spotting the Habs to a 3-0 lead, the Rangers started playing like the team that had just won 2 big games on the road.
King Henrik was fantastic, stopping several point blank chances. His play made it possible for the boys to score 5 unanswered goals for the come from behind victory. What made the thing most sweet for me was that it was the NBC game o' the week, and I got to see it all, yay! Nice way to wrap up my birthday weekend. Thanks, boys!

happy birthday to me!

"If they were me, if they were me, and I was you, and I was you
If they were me and I was you would you like a present too?"

Thanks, boys!

Rangers Help Celebrate My Birthday!..jpeg
Rangers 3 Devils 1
YAY!!
The traveling Rangers helped to make my birthday a happy one by defeating Jersey last night. King Henrik was awesome, stopping 33 of 34 shots, a great performance coming on the heels of Valiquette's shutout in Philly.
Dubinsky and Drury each scored a go-ahead goal for New York, and Drury added an empty netter in the waning seconds of the 3rd.
Hockey games between hated division rivals are intense, 'check' it out:
Pain at the Plexiglass.jpeg
Can the boys make it 3 in a row on the road? We'll find out tomorrow, when they face Les Habitants
in Montreal...

Valiant Valiquette!

Nice to see a smile from Jags!.jpeg
Rangers 4 Flyers 0
YAY!!
The Rangers awoke from their all-star slumber, taking advantage of sloppy play by the Flyers and protecting the area in front of goalie Steve Valiquette. (1st career shutout for Stevie V, yay!)
The boys spread around the scoring, with goals by Dawes, Drury, Shanahan and Prucha.
Petr Prucha protecting the puck..jpeg
1st road win in over a month, but the trip's not over. As this is being posted, they play in New Jersey...
