Epic Collapse.
Canadiens 6 Rangers 5 OT/SO
guh. The boys were looking to sweep the season series against the Habs, and after building a 5-0 lead, that looked like a done deal. What turned out was a collapse reminiscent of the game a couple of weeks ago, when New York spotted the Montréal a 3 goal lead, only to roar back with 5 unanswered goals. Except this time, the skate was on the other foot.
Shanahan (2) Dubinsky, Avery and Drury assembled the lead, and over the last 28 minutes or so, the boys let it slip away. After a scoreless overtime, the shootout went to the Les Habitants. Bright note: Jaromir Jagr had 4 assists and Brendan Shanahan has reached 20 goals for the 19th straight time. Only Gordie Howe has bettered that mark, with 22 seasons of at least 20 goals.
So, 1 point in the standings for the regulation tie, but what a letdown...
LET'S GO RANGERS!
