Did I give up too soon?!

Rangers 5 Maple Leafs 1
YAY!
I kinda gave up on my boys after the post Olympic letdown, didn't I...? *is ashamed*
Well, lo and behold, after yet another losing streak, they somehow managed to find a way to go on a winning tear, piling up wins and climbing back into the playoff chase over their last 9 games.

Erik Christensen scored a couple and had an assist on the Vinny (see above) Prospal goal, so let's play some music: NY Rangers Goal Celebration Song
The regular season ends with a home and home with the Flyers, starting tonight at MSG. If they win BOTH they're in...
LET'S GO RANGERS!

Big win before the big break!

Rangers 5 Lightning 2
YAY!
Tampa Bay scored their 1st period goals and left Ranger fans contemplating another home loss/lame effort. But Sean Avery got hooked while on a breakaway early in period 2, and was awarded a penalty shot. Here we go...

Avery's 'superstar' move got the Rangers started, the 1st of their 4 2nd period goals, so let's serenade Sean: NY Rangers Goal Celebration Song
Vinnie Prospal (see top photo) put one in, Erik Christensen added 2 goals, and an empty netter by Chris Drury rounded out the scoring.
27 saves for the King, and oh yeah, there was a little of this, too:

Time for the NHL to go dark for the Olympic break, and 5 Blueshirts will be involved:
King Henrik Lundqvist for Sweden, Marian Gaborik for Slovakia, Olli Jokinen for Finland, Chris Drury and Ryan Callahan for USA. Good luck, boys, and don't get injured...
LET'S GO RANGERS!

Holy Moly, Olli in OVERTIME!

Rangers 3 Penguins 2 OT
YAY!
Olli Jokinen scored the game winner one minute into overtime, and somehow the boys stole a victory from Pittsburgh in their barn. WooHoo! It's not all good news, tho. Marian Gaborik was limited to just a few minutes of action with his gashed leg, and Michael Del Zotto missed all but a minute, as he suffered a cut to his midsection on his first shift. Good Grief!

With the overtime goal and an assist, let's play this tune for Olli: NY Rangers Goal Celebration Song
Sid Crosby had a goal in the 1st and another in the 3rd, Brandon Dubinsky and Vinny Prospal had 2nd period goals. Here's Vinny on the rush:

King Henrik had 25 saves, and Marc Staal (28 minutes!) Dan Girardi and Wade Redden logged a ton of ice time in Del Zotto's absence.
Last game for the Blueshirts before the Olympic break: the Lightning at MSGon Sunday afternoon...
LET'S GO RANGERS!

Score one goal, Grant one wish

Predators 2 Rangers 1
guh. Marian Gaborik missed the game after he was cut by a skate during practice. The Blueshirts manage only 1 goal. I see a connection, and so do you. Still, the boys piled 38 shots on Nashville netminder Dan Ellis, so that's encouraging. *sigh*
The moment of the night was the singing of the Star Spangled Banner by 15-year-old Bianca Muniz, a Make-a-Wish youngster from Hudson Valley Make-a-Wish. (see above photo)
Let's Go Ranguhs!!

Blueshirts triumph over evil.

Rangers 3 Devils 1
YAY!
41 saves for King Henrik Lundqvist, 3 goals in the 2nd period for the boys, and there ya go, a much needed win at home. The first Blueshirt biscuit into the basket, by Marian Gaborik:

A goal and an assist (Gabby's goal) for Ryan Callahan, so here you go, a song we don't hear nearly enough: NY Rangers Goal Celebration Song
The Devils really came at New York in the 3rd, putting 20 shots on the King, shown here taking a bow for being the game's first star:

Predators at MSGon Wednesday...
LET'S GO RANGERS!

the 'Jok' is on us.

Kings 2 Rangers 1
guh. Once again, Marian Gaborik was all of the offense, and this time it wasn't enough. Olli Jokinen, (acquired with Brandon Prust in a trade with Calgary for Chris Higgins and Ales Kotalik) made his Ranger debut, centering the top line with Gaborik and Prospal.
The boys go 1-2 on the road trip. Alex (Oh no not) Ovechkin and the Capitals at MSG on Thursday night...
Let's Go Ranguhs!!

Not too shabby, Gabby!

Rangers 3 Avalanche 1
MARIAN GABORIK!
The losing streak ends, and I can come in off the window ledge.

Gabby gets the 'Hat Trick', so play this 3 times in a row: NY Rangers Goal Celebration Song
With King Henrik still out with the flu, Chad Johnson yielded just a 3rd period goal on 35 shots and notched his first NHL win. Way to go, Chad! By the way, nice Statue of Liberty design on his mask, click to enlarge at the Flickr page:

Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night...
LET'S GO RANGERS!

play like dogs, lose to coyotes.

Coyotes 3 Rangers 2
guh. King Henrik had the flu, so Chad Johnson got the start in goal. Poor Chad, his team slept through the 1st period (0-3), committed 5 penalties in the 2nd, and finally tried to make a big comeback in the 3rd.
Tried. And FAILED. Sunday in Colorado...
Let's Go Ranguhs!!

Cam 'Wards' off Blueshirts.

Hurricanes 5 Rangers 1
guh. There are no bright spots, only gloom. And this frowny face:
2 of the NHL's 3 Staal brothers in action:

Road trip begins in Phoenix on Saturday night...
Let's Go Ranguhs!!

Artem's goals aren't enough

Penguins 4 Rangers 2
guh. Artem Anisimov amazingly finds the net twice, but so did Chris Conner for the Pens. Throw in a Malkin goal plus an empty-netter at the end, and there you have it. A 3 game losing streak.
Hurricanes at the Garden tonight...
Let's Go Ranguhs!!

inoffensive.

Canadians 6 Rangers 0
guh. The Habs were all over the boys last night, and I had to turn off the radio feed after it became 3-0. Shutout twice in a row, just like last week. These pretzels are making me thirsty
So the offense has gone back to sleep, just in time to face Sid, Geno and the Pens tomorrow night at MSG...
Let's Go Ranguhs!!

Philly Phiasco

Flyers 2 Rangers 0
guh. No goals, just fights. Philly thug Dan Carcillo smacked around Marian Gaborik, Avery lost a bout to Scott Hartnell, but then later bested Carcillo.
The offense was... guh. Is this really the same team that scored 14 goals in 2 games? No, it was the team that got shut out twice last week.
Tomorrow night, Les Habitants in Montréal...
Let's Go Ranguhs!!
