Snowed-win!

Captain Chris scores!.jpg
Rangers 2 Flyers 1
YAY!

A snowstorm kept most of the Philly fans trapped in their homes, but New York showed up and, largely thanks to Henrik Lundqvist (36 of 37) and defenceman Marc Staal (31 minutes of ice time, holy crap!), came away with their 2nd win in as many games.
Artem Anisimov scored the eventual game-winner with kind of a fluky, throw-it-at-the-net-and-see-what-happens goal. And Captain Chris Drury proved you can show leadership even from the 4th line, scoring the game's opening goal, and earning a playing of our theme song: NY Rangers Goal Celebration Song
King Henrik was his usual tremendous self yesterday, even taking on off of his noggin to keep the puck out of the net:

Emerging from the Darkness?

Here comes the NHL's leading scorer....jpg
Rangers 5 Islanders2
YAY!

Marion Gaborik (see above) added to his league leading mark with a power play tally in the 3rd:
Where would we be without these two?.jpg
Ryan Callahan also scored 2 on the power play, so I think a little happy music is in order: NY Rangers Goal Celebration Song
King Henrik keeps pucks out of the net, but can't keep players out of the crease:

As I'm writing this, the boys have just beaten the Flyers in Philly. This could be the start of something, well, better than losing...

Roloson Rules Over Rangers.jpg
Islanders 2 Rangers 1
guh.
The Rangers alienated the Garden fans by coming out flat in the 1st, letting the visitors outshoot, outwork and outscore them. The 'blue seaters' started chanting, "Fire Sather!" (team General Manager) and that's probably not going to happen.
The Islanders added another late in the 3rd, and while Enver Lisin's goal with a minute left made things interesting, the final score is all that counts. The Blueshirts are 1-6-2 in the last 9 games. frowny face.jpeg

two more losses. *sigh*

Another slip-up.jpg
Sabres 3 Rangers 2
guh.
38 shots for the boys, but Ryan Miller made 36 saves. King Henrik made 28 stops, but obviously, it wasn't enough. The Ranger goals were scored by Ryan Callahan and Marian Gaborik.
Oh well, it least my brother Ben will be happy his team won.
----------------------------------
Now on to last night's game...
Hank makes a glove save.jpg
Thrashers 3 Rangers 2 OT/SO
The good news first: Brandon Dubinsky made his return from missing 13 games with a broken hand, yay! The Blueshirts scored 2 power play goals and registered 48 shots!
The bad news: it wasn't enough.. Ryan Callahan tied the game on a breakaway in the 2nd...
I just scored a goal!.jpg
and Marian Gaborik added to his league-leading goal total of 23 when he tied it in the 3rd. But sadly, Gabs couldn't get one past Atlanta's Johan Hedberg in the shootout.
So, a point in the standings for getting the regulation tie, but that's not enough, is it? The boys need wins if they hope to stay in the playoff hunt.
Islanders tomorrow night...

one lousy goal, one lousy point

Dustin Byfuglien ot winner.jpeg
Black Hawks 2 Rangers 1 OT
guh.
At first blush, one might say, yay, the boys snagged a point from a great team in their building. But the offense was entirely one 1st period goal by Chris Higgins:
One goal, One point.jpg
And if it were not for King Henrik (39 saves ) keeping things close, they might have been blown out. As it is, the Hawks tied it in the 3rd, and won it in overtime. (See top photo) Coach Tortorella, noting the lame effort, commented that, other than Lundqvist, his team "stunk". frowny face.jpeg

Rangers' up and down weekend.

Ryan's goal wins it!.jpg
Rangers 2 Sabres 1
YAY!

A pair of tough games for the boys this weekend; on Saturday in Buffalo, Chris Higgins' 1st period goal was the only offense through 2 periods:
Chris Higgins Scores to the Short Side!.jpg
Ryan Callahan scored the eventual game-winner in the 3rd, (see top photo) and this seems like a good time for some music: NY Rangers Goal Celebration Song
King Henrik had to be awesome right to the very end, allowing only one goal. Listening to the broadcast, it sounded like he made a bunch of point blank stops in the last stages of the game.
-------------------------
Now on to Sunday's game:
Red Wings 3 Rangers 1
guh.
This was so close to being a win-win-weekend for the Blueshirts, but Detroit scored to break the tie with 2 minutes left in the game, and New York could not answer. An empty netter made the final 3-1.
Jimmy Howard was in net for the Wings, I have no idea who he is, but apparently he's quite good. (28 save on 29 shots, including a penalty shot attempt)
Brian Boyle got the only Ranger score.

five-sixths of a great game.

frowny face.jpeg
Penguins 5 Rangers 2
guh.
2 goals for Marian Gaborik, and a well played, very tight contest last night in the rematch with Pittsburgh... until halfway through the 3rd period.
Then it all went to dren.
A hat trick for Mike Rupp (who?), of course Sid Crosby got a goal, and now the boys are in a whole. 3 game losing streak, 10 losses in 15 games. guh

Sid the kid got a hat trick, Artes Anisimov got clobbered (and injured, elbow to the head) and Steve Valiquette let in many goals. In short, the Rangers got whacked. frowny face.jpeg

stormy weather. =(

Lightning 5 Rangers 1

The 'Ning scored early and often, King Henrik was pulled in the 2nd period, Gaborik held scoreless... that adds up to loss.

Pierre does it again!

P.A. Parenteau does it again!.jpg
Rangers 2 Panthers 1 OT/SO
YAY!

In a rematch with Florida, the visiting Rangers faced a stingy goalie (Tomas Vokoun), a vicious hitter (Victor Oreskovich), and a dearth of defensemen (Wade Reddon leftwith injury in the 1st period). After 2 periods, the only goal of the game belonged to Marion Gaborik, tipping in a perfect feed from Chris Drury:
Gaborik tip-in!.jpg
If you are going to have a reputation, being 'the guy who gets it done in the shootout' is a good one to have. P.A. Parenteau, way to go: NY Rangers Goal Celebration Song
Nice to have Captain Chris back from missing 5 games due to concussion. He saw plenty of ice-time, centering the 3rd line. King Henrik gave up the tying goal late in the 3rd, but was perfect in the overtime and in the shootout. Hugs for Hank:

Offense. I like it!

Matt makes a move!.jpg
Rangers 7 Blue Jackets 4
YAY!

The Blueshirts went down 2-0, and Garden leatherlungs were starting their chorus of booooos; coach Tortorela called time out to calm the boys down, and New York exploded for 7 straight goals, finishing with Matt Gilroy's breakaway beauty (see top photo)
2 for Marion Gaborik, 2 for Sean Avery; boys, this is for you: NY Rangers Goal Celebration Song
Avery's highlight reel has been short on offense this season, but not last night:

'Pretty well, decent' is good enough!

World's tiniest cameraman?.jpg
Rangers 2 Senators 1 OT/SO
YAY!

Vinnie Prospal scored the only goal in regulation (see above) for the visiting Blueshirts, and King Henrik Lundqvist was called upon to make many (35) saves.
Overtime passed without a score, and so the game would be decided in the 'skills competition', aka shootout. By the time the shootout got to the 7th round, Coach Tortorella had exhausted through the obvious Rangers, and "Torts asked me if I was doing well in the minors in the shootout and I said, 'I do pretty well, decent,' so he gave me a shot". So let's dedicate this next tune to just called up from the minors, P.A. (Pierre-Alexandre) Parenteau, for scoring the game winner in the shootout: NY Rangers Goal Celebration Song
Sean Avery didn't score, but he's always good for bit of excitement:

Who will play center?

Who will play center?..jpg
Thrashers 5 Rangers 3
guh.
Missing 2 key centermen, (Brandon Dubinsky and Chris Drury) the boys gave a valiant effort against the Thrashers, and... lost another game. =(
A good 1st period (1-1) a good 3rd period (out-shooting Atlanta 18-5), but they were outscored in the 2nd, 3 goals to 1. *sigh*
Donald Brashear celebrated his 1,000th NHL game by getting into a fight. Naturally.

Saturday loss. =( [updated]

Remembrance Day.jpg
Flames 3 Rangers 1
[updates: 1. the Drury hit resulted in a 3 game suspension to the Flames' Curtis Glencross. 2. Dubinsky is going to miss 3-6 weeks with a broken bone in his hand.]
guh.
The Remembrance Day (see above) game was a nail-biter for almost the entire contest, and the boys had to struggle valiantly without captain Chris Drury (lost in the 1st minute to concussion from a vicious, dirty & unpenalized hit by Curtis Glencross) and Brandon Dubinsky (blocked a shot with his hand/wrist in the early 2nd period). So the top 2 centers out of the game, and maybe out for a lengthy stretch. frowny face.jpeg
Dan Girardi scored the only Ranger goal. But Miikka Kiprusoff was just a nightmare in goal for Calgary, stopping 31 of 32 shots. Meanwhile, Henrik Lundqvist sat out another game with an undisclosed upper leg injury. (groin or thigh)
The boys ran into a couple of old friends on Saturday night; Fredrik Sjostrom and Nigel Dawes. Here's Michael Rozsival exchanging shoves with Nigel:

Come here. We need you for the Group Hug!.jpg
Rangers 4 Oilers 2
YAY!

First of all let's acknowledge the 3 power play goals (Callahan, Kotalik and Gaborik) with a little music: NY Rangers Goal Celebration Song
Chris Higgins notched a goal for a 2nd straight game, a sign that maybe his season-long drought is just a bad memory. smiley face.jpeg Steve Valiquette got the win in net, stopping 28 of 30 shots.
A high-stick to Michael Del Zotto's face was both painful and a 4 minute power play for the Rangers:
Dude, are you ok?.jpg
