can we stop the losing? please?
Penguins 8 Rangers 3
guh.
Sid the kid got a hat trick, Artes Anisimov got clobbered (and injured, elbow to the head) and Steve Valiquette let in many goals. In short, the Rangers got whacked.
Rematch at MSG on tomorrow night...

stormy weather. =(
Lightning 5 Rangers 1
guh.
The 'Ning scored early and often, King Henrik was pulled in the 2nd period, Gaborik held scoreless... that adds up to loss.
A home & home with the Penguins starts tonight in Pittsburgh...

Pierre does it again!
Rangers 2 Panthers 1 OT/SO
In a rematch with Florida, the visiting Rangers faced a stingy goalie (Tomas Vokoun), a vicious hitter (Victor Oreskovich), and a dearth of defensemen (Wade Reddon leftwith injury in the 1st period). After 2 periods, the only goal of the game belonged to Marion Gaborik, tipping in a perfect feed from Chris Drury:
If you are going to have a reputation, being 'the guy who gets it done in the shootout' is a good one to have. P.A. Parenteau, way to go: NY Rangers Goal Celebration Song
Nice to have Captain Chris back from missing 5 games due to concussion. He saw plenty of ice-time, centering the 3rd line. King Henrik gave up the tying goal late in the 3rd, but was perfect in the overtime and in the shootout. Hugs for Hank:
Next up for the boys, the Lightning in Tampa on Friday...

Offense. I like it!
Rangers 7 Blue Jackets 4
The Blueshirts went down 2-0, and Garden leatherlungs were starting their chorus of booooos; coach Tortorela called time out to calm the boys down, and New York exploded for 7 straight goals, finishing with Matt Gilroy's breakaway beauty (see top photo)
2 for Marion Gaborik, 2 for Sean Avery; boys, this is for you: NY Rangers Goal Celebration Song
Avery's highlight reel has been short on offense this season, but not last night:
Michael Del Zotto regained his scoring touch:

Oh yeah, the Rangers lost to the Florida Panthers, 3-2, on Saturday. I didn't forget, I just couldn't muster the energy to blog about it. guh.

Let's hope the boys bring this offense to Florida on Wednesday ...

Rough night.
Capitals 4 Rangers 2
guh.
2 goals for Marion Gaborik, but a late 3rd period goal for the Caps sunk the boys at home. No winning streak.

'Pretty well, decent' is good enough!
Rangers 2 Senators 1 OT/SO
Vinnie Prospal scored the only goal in regulation (see above) for the visiting Blueshirts, and King Henrik Lundqvist was called upon to make many (35) saves.
Overtime passed without a score, and so the game would be decided in the 'skills competition', aka shootout. By the time the shootout got to the 7th round, Coach Tortorella had exhausted through the obvious Rangers, and "Torts asked me if I was doing well in the minors in the shootout and I said, 'I do pretty well, decent,' so he gave me a shot". So let's dedicate this next tune to just called up from the minors, P.A. (Pierre-Alexandre) Parenteau, for scoring the game winner in the shootout: NY Rangers Goal Celebration Song
Sean Avery didn't score, but he's always good for bit of excitement:
The boys only play 2 games this week, starting with Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals on Tuesday...

Who will play center?
Thrashers 5 Rangers 3
guh.
Missing 2 key centermen, (Brandon Dubinsky and Chris Drury) the boys gave a valiant effort against the Thrashers, and... lost another game. =(
A good 1st period (1-1) a good 3rd period (out-shooting Atlanta 18-5), but they were outscored in the 2nd, 3 goals to 1. *sigh*
Donald Brashear celebrated his 1,000th NHL game by getting into a fight. Naturally.
Here's a bit of silver lining to our NYR cloud: Brian Leetch inducted into Hockey's Hall of Fame:
From left to right: Brett Hull, New Jersey Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello, Leetchie, Luc Robitaille and Steve Yzerman.

Saturday loss. =( [updated]
Flames 3 Rangers 1
[updates: 1. the Drury hit resulted in a 3 game suspension to the Flames' Curtis Glencross. 2. Dubinsky is going to miss 3-6 weeks with a broken bone in his hand.]
guh.
The Remembrance Day (see above) game was a nail-biter for almost the entire contest, and the boys had to struggle valiantly without captain Chris Drury (lost in the 1st minute to concussion from a vicious, dirty & unpenalized hit by Curtis Glencross) and Brandon Dubinsky (blocked a shot with his hand/wrist in the early 2nd period). So the top 2 centers out of the game, and maybe out for a lengthy stretch.
Dan Girardi scored the only Ranger goal. But Miikka Kiprusoff was just a nightmare in goal for Calgary, stopping 31 of 32 shots. Meanwhile, Henrik Lundqvist sat out another game with an undisclosed upper leg injury. (groin or thigh)
The boys ran into a couple of old friends on Saturday night; Fredrik Sjostrom and Nigel Dawes. Here's Michael Rozsival exchanging shoves with Nigel:
The Blueshirts are off until meeting the Thrashers back home at MSG on Thursday...

Thursday, WIN! =)
Rangers 4 Oilers 2
First of all let's acknowledge the 3 power play goals (Callahan, Kotalik and Gaborik) with a little music: NY Rangers Goal Celebration Song
Chris Higgins notched a goal for a 2nd straight game, a sign that maybe his season-long drought is just a bad memory. Steve Valiquette got the win in net, stopping 28 of 30 shots.
A high-stick to Michael Del Zotto's face was both painful and a 4 minute power play for the Rangers:

dumb & lazy. (but enough about me)
Canucks 4 Rangers 1
guh.
The boys started their road trip with another feeble offensive effort. I picked up listening to the radio broadcast at the beginning of the 3rd, and was very encouraged when New York tied the game at 1-1, with Christopher Higgins (finally!) getting his 1st goal as a Ranger:
Unfortunately, that was the only Blueshirt tally, and when Vancouver poured it on in the last half of the 3rd period. the milestone went for naught.
Here's coach Tortorella on the state of the team: "Well, I'll tell you, the work ethic is acceptable from most people and totally unacceptable from some people, and some are not smart." I think he just called a few of his guys lazy and dumb. .
Let's try to get it right in Edmonton on Thursday night...

Welcome back, Gabby!
Rangers 5 Coyotes 2
Marian Gaborik (see above) returned from injury to provide the game's only goal, and we dedicate this song to him: NY Rangers Goal Celebration Song
Avery and Higgins also returned after missing the Minnesota game.
With no margin for error, and with the Blueshirts outshot 29-23, King Henrik shut out the Bruins for the 4th time:
Penalty killing was another big factor, with the boys taking 5 penalties to Boston's 2.
Rangers head to western Canada for 3 games in 5 nights, starting Tuesday night in Vancouver...
